Eastern Red-cedar's have been intruding Nebraska's ecosystems and surrounding states for decades now. From an economic standpoint the herbaceous cover under red-cedar trees is reduced and impacts the amount of feasible vegetation for grazing. Along with loss of forage for wildlife habitat, intercepting rainfall under tree canopies, and reduced groundwater recharge red-cedar trees cause more harm than good.

Shearing and mulching have become two methods of removing invasive cedars.
